Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hasan Malek has urged local entrepreneurs to be sincere, responsible and dedicated, saying it would raise investor confidence.
“This is the confidence we need to retain, in order to improve our ranking,” he told reporters after officially opening an outlet of SAM’s Groceria, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mydin Mohamed Holdings, at Gurney Paragon here today.
Also present was SAM’s Groceria Executive Director Datuk Wira Ameer Ali Mydin.
Hasan said the government is committed to enabling local entrepreneurs to compete globally, and would be approaching them to explain the opportunities available.
“They should be bold enough to take risks going into new markets and ventures,” he said.
He also urged other supermarkets to emulate the outlet’s use of self-scanning equipment to enable customers to keep track of their expenses.
The 30,000 sq. ft. (2,787 sq. m.) outlet offers 19,000 items, 60 per cent of which are imported from the US, Australia, Japan, India, Taiwan and Thailand.
